Île Sainte-Marguerite

After all the partying and indulgence of the last few days, W and I decided it was high time we had a relaxing day out for a change.

We shuffled into Cannes to get the wonderful taxi boat over to Île Sainte-Marguerite. Sailing the Fairline was out of the question after the amount of alcohol consumed over the last few days! Plus, the boat over is exceptionally good value and means you can let your hair down over lunch, without worrying about getting back!

The views and scenery are magnificent, a truly tropical escape. Although the place is hugely popular with tourists, it is big enough for you not to feel too crowded, and a little wander around can really make you feel like you have the whole island to yourself!

We had a beautiful time relaxing on the beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the view. Word of advice however, parts of the beach are rather covered in pebbles, so best to take a nice thick beach towel with you!

A day lazing in the sun obviously builds up an appetite, so we headed for one of W’s favourite restaurants, L’Escale. It’s definitely worth contacting them to book a table, as they fill up very quickly!

We settled in and ordered a refreshing bottle of water along with a nice bottle of Rosė. W started with a delicious portion of Mozzarella, Tomato’s and Basil. Having opted for a pizza for main course myself, I had to give the starter amiss!

I tend to lose my appetite a lot in hot weather, but couldn’t resist a delicious pizza to myself! My man opted for Moules & Frites, his absolute favourite, especially when well prepared, as they are in L’Escale!

To finish off our sumptuous meal (after having made it last for around two hours already!) we decided there was no better way to end than with a Colonele … Another of W’s favourites! A couple of iced scoops of lemon sorbet, topped with a shot of Vodka; make sure you ask for a quality vodka, otherwise it’s a bit hard to stomach! My man thoroughly enjoyed his, as you can see!

We decided to head back to Cannes just before the last boat pick up, which I would strongly advise unless you want to fight for a place back on the last boat! We headed to the Radisson Blu Cannes for a final view over the bay and a bottle of Champagne before heading home. The rooftop bar here is free for all to access, and I highly recommend a visit, the view is breathtaking!

All in all, it was just the relaxing day out we needed and I certainly suggest you make a trip to Île Sainte-Marguerite if you’re in the area. Let me know if you’re heading down, and where your favourite chill out places are?

    1. Thank you Moritz, it really was a great day, and such a special place! Unfortunately we didn’t have time to check out Fort Royale on the island, which is where they filmed the Man in the Iron Mask, but it’s certainly on my to do list next time! Have you been before? M x

      1. Sadly not. I always spent my holidays in Spain or Italy and visited the major cities in France, but I did not have the chance to visit the Côte d’Azur yet. That makes it even more amazing to see these lovely pictures. I’m really looking forward to going there oneday 🙂
