Meet the Stylist: Lorna’s Hair Boutique

When I first came to Jersey, the thing I struggled with most, was finding a talented hair stylist who would actually listen to what you wanted, rather than doing their own thing.

Then luckily, I met Lorna. Lorna was previously based at a hairdressers in St Helier called Shortt Cut, which is actually where she had her first ever job.

Well now, I have some very exciting news to share with you!

Lorna's Hair Boutique, Jersey

I am delighted and very proud to say, that Lorna has now set up on her own in Jersey! Working from the Zen Hair & Beauty Salon on New Street in St Helier, you can now find her at her very own, Lorna Hair Boutique.

Lorna has done my hair for years now and I have always been totally thrilled with the result. She is professional, friendly and genuinely listens to what you ask for. She will also happily tell you if she thinks you are making a mistake with what you’re asking for or perhaps something else you might suit better. Honesty is a difficult quality to find in hairdressers, but Lorna takes great pride in ensuring the absolute best for her clients.

The Salon is also host to Mireia’s Beauty Room, where you can pop along for treatments, nail appointments and even spray tanning. Basically, all your beauty needs are under this one roof!

The decor in the salon is bright an airy, with a touch of elegance and sparkle. It makes you feel instantly relaxed and at home. Lorna is the ultimate professional and truly makes you feel welcome.

So, for one reason or another (mostly being busy and generally just forgetting!), I have been a very bad client and have not had my hair done for a VERY long time! Lorna decided she was going to rectify this with the opening of her new business, and invited me in to be one of her first clients. Here is my terrible ”before” picture!

As you can see, Lorna had her work cut out to sort me out! I was actually slightly nervous too, as I knew I was going to have to have quite a bit taken off in order to get my locks back to a good state. Luckily, we had the perfect cure to calm me down though, a nice glass of white wine to relax with whilst getting pampered and prepared!

As we got stuck into the task at hand, I asked Lorna a few questions to find out a little more about her career in hairdressing and how she had gotten started.

JG: Was Hairdressing always the career path you wanted to take?

L: I think it was always in the back of my mind to work within the industry. My first job was in a hairdressers and really highlighted my love of the profession. I had originally thought about going into beauty, but when I saw the variety involved in hairdressing and how every client was unique in their requests, I decided that was the route for me.

JG: How long have you been in the hairdressing profession?

L: I’ve been professionally hairdressing for around 6 years now, but I’ve worked in a salon since I was 16. My first job was actually in a salon called Way Ahead, which then became Shortt Cut where I worked before setting up on my own.

JG: What is the most satisfying part of your job?

L: When clients come in and they don’t feel their best, they need a change or a transformation. The feeling I get when they leave me feeling amazing, is the absolute best part of my job. I get a great sense of achievement knowing that I’ve played a part in making them feel amazing and renewed. I also get great satisfaction from the amount of trust my clients place in me, not just when looking after their hair either. In my career, you hear an awful lot about people’s personal lives and have to exercise a great deal of discretion. I am grateful for the trust my clients place in me and pleased to be able to become their friend and confidant.

As you can tell, I was absolutely over the moon with my new hair style, Lorna had practically worked a miracle to get it looking in a good condition again! She is absolutely the only person I would trust to touch my hair, I have also recommended numerous friends to see her, who now also say the same!

Not only is Lorna extremely passionate about her work and conscientious, she also offers her expertise at very reasonable prices. I mean the kind of prices that will probably shock you when you hear them! To find out more or get a quote for your needs, give Lorna a call on 01534 758896 or 07700 335957. Mention Jersey Girl when you book and she’ll be sure to take extra special care of you! You can also find her on Facebook at Lorna Hair Boutique.

Lorna sent me home with a collection of sample goodies to try out and to make sure I take better care of my hair in future, she currently swears by the brands Wella and Milkshake. Both of which smell divine, as well as working wonders for your hair!

Given that summer is now officially upon us, I highly recommend you book an appointment in with Lorna to get luscious locks for the season and tips on how to take care of your hair during the warmer weather. I’m sure you’ll be delighted with the results and leave feeling totally refreshed.

Thank you Lorna for my great new style and I wish you the very best of luck with your new venture, I can’t wait to come back again soon!

    1. Aww, thanks Suze! She did such a great job, as usual! I love it, just a shame I am useless at blow drying my own style and can’t quite get it the same, ha! Maybe I’ll have my own personal stylist one day?! Xx
