A momentous occasion happened in Jersey just last week. A group of intrigued Jersey business owners, charities, shoppers, bloggers and fashionistas, came together in the Drift at the Royal Yacht to hear all about Jersey’s first EVER Fashion Week.

The event was thought up after a trip to Jersey a while back, and has since grown legs and is now supporting numerous Jersey businesses and charities alike.

I arrived to the Drift Club, shrouded in purple light, to be greeted with a bar covered in Champagne and eager to find out more about the upcoming events.

The event was attended by Michelle Heaton, Sofia Hayat, Lady Antalya and her partner Axel and hosted by Julian Bennett, who you may recognise from hosting the British version of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

We took up our seats and tucked into a few canapés (Truffle Arancini Balls – whats not to like?!) before joining in with the throng of people for some good old fashioned networking!

The nominated charities, who will receive funds raised from the event, were announced on the big screens around the room. The six lucky chosen charities for the first event are; The RNLI, Cancer Research UK, Headway Jersey, Jersey Cheshire Home, Friends of Jersey Oncology and Teenage Cancer Trust.

I’m sure they are all exceptionally grateful for the support and, the best part is, all you have to do is turn up and enjoy the show, in order to make your contribution, as funds from all ticket sales will be given to the charities.

After a leisurely time meeting with other guests of the event and enjoying the hospitality provided by the event’s sponsors, we took our seats once more, as Julian took to the stage to tell us more about the upcoming events.

The guests all listened intently, whilst a very funny Julian divulged the plans for the first Jersey Fashion Week. Hosted over two days on 26th & 27th October, there will be an ambitious 11 shows taking place between 12pm – 8pm. The final catwalk show will feature the best of Couture and glamour and will also be joined by a well known London designer … yet to be confirmed!

On day one, you will be able to see pieces from La Lilou, My Way, Roulette, Ashworth & Bird, Voisins and Friendtex.

Day two of the show will feature BHS, Ashworth & Bird, Eclectic, Ellis Collections, De Gruchy and Clements & Church.

There will also be a ‘Fashion Lounge’ open throughout the events, featuring 15 shops, all set up for your viewing and buying pleasure. You have been warned, be prepared for a fantastic shop-fest!

After the excitement of the announcements was over, the hosts took to the stage for a few photo opportunities, before returning to join the guests for further networking.

Now, I’m sure there are many budding fashionistas in Jersey, who are keen to know how they can get involved in this fabulous event. So, first of all, you can keep up to date with all the latest developments by following JFW on Facebook and also on Twitter.

Finally, and possible the most exciting part, YOU can audition to be a model in the shows themselves! The organisers are looking for men, women and children of all shapes and sizes, to show off the best of what Jersey’s Fashion Week has to offer. Simply turn up for their casting event on 11th October for the category suited to you, for your chance to grace the runway!

Jersey Fashion Week

I am personally really looking forward to seeing what the show has to offer, it’s always exciting to see new events and initiatives popping up in Jersey. Who else would you like to see gracing the runway or exhibiting at the show?

Keep an eye on their website and social media channels for details of tickets, which will be sold on Eventbrite as soon as available .. See you on the runway!
