At the beginning of this week, I received an email from the lovely people over at the UK Blog Awards team, informing me that I had qualified as a finalist in the Individual Lifestyle Blog category for 2016.
Needless to say, I read it about five times and double checked the email address to make sure it was genuine, before freaking out a little bit and messaging all my friends with the news at about 11pm at night, sorry about that guys!
After getting over the initial shock and realising I had actually made it on to the shortlist, out of hundreds of other great lifestyle blogs, I remembered I had a few people to thank for the privilege … YOU GUYS!
I wanted to say a HUGE thank you for all your support ever since I’ve been writing my blog. For taking the time to comment, share and like my posts. For your messages of support and feedback and, most importantly, for taking the time to vote for me to even get this far in the UK Blog Awards! I appreciate all your time in helping me get this far and I’m so pleased you like the blog enough to put the effort into voting, so thank you all, CHEERS to being a finalist!
Following on from the announcement of my blog being the first Jersey blog to make the finals of the awards, my week turned in to a bit of a whirlwind!
First up, I was contacted by both Channel Island radio stations, Channel 103 and BBC Radio Jersey to speak to them about the award. I’ve done radio interviews before and I’m not too phased by them now thankfully, mostly because you can’t see me and I’m hiding behind a microphone!
What I haven’t prepared for though, is to get in front of the camera! So when ITV Channel Television contacted me and asked me to do an interview for the prime news slot, I freaked out a little bit! But, since my blog has been all about saying yes to new things, I agreed anyway!
I arranged to meet with the lovely Louisa Pilbeam one evening in Tiffin Jersey, to carry out the pre-recorded interview. I also owe Louisa a thank you at this point, as I was rather nervous about doing the interview, worried I would look a mess or babble rubbish or even just say nothing at all! But Louisa was so lovely and chatty, she instantly put me at ease and I genuinely felt like I was just having a chat with a friend!
We ran through the sort of things we would be discussing whilst Cameraman Steve set up the cameras and lighting around us, before getting us mic’d up. I actually had no idea how much work goes into making those few minute snippets you see on the news each night!
The chatter flowed as we got in to the interview and I actually really enjoyed myself. The only difficult part of the interview, was having to sit through half an hour of staring at our ‘prop’ glasses of Champagne in front of us and not actually touch them!
After the interview, we had a few shots taken from different angles by our trusty camera man whilst we carried on chatting away, about anything and everything really! With all the hard work finally wrapped up, we were allowed to indulge in our Champagne at last, and I celebrated another toast to my overwhelming achievement!
Keep an eye out on the ITV news updates next week, to catch my interview with Louisa, let me know what you think if you see it? (Please be kind, it’s my first TV appearance, ha!)
Once again, I want to say a massive thank you for your support, I appreciate every single one of your votes. I really hope I can take the blog all the way to the finish line when the winners are announced, at the awards ceremony in London on 29th April. I will of course keep you all posted on the result, but for now, I am simply happy to even be considered in the category! THANK YOU!
