It’s been a while since I had a good girly dinner out, just to catch up and enjoy some great food.
Which is why I thought it was about time I organised another one and checked out somewhere new in the process! I hadn’t actually tried the Boat House Restaurant before, although I’d been in for drinks previously, I’d never stayed for dinner.
As it turns out, we picked an excellent day to visit, as they had just started their new menu in the Upper Deck Restaurant. A whole new menu to try out and a stunning, sunny view to enjoy … turns out this Friday 13th was lucky for us!
The Boat House terrace upstairs was great for catching the sun, although we intended to head out afterwards, so we had quite an early reservation and dived straight in to the restaurant to order.
It was super bright and airy; plus, we had the whole place to ourselves thanks to our cunning planning ahead! It did get very busy later though, so definitely get your reservation in if you’re thinking of going along.
We were escorted to our window table by the friendly team, who all genuinely seem to love working there! I did notice that the owner could walk in and greet every single team member by name, you get the sense that they operate like a big happy family, so it’s hardly surprising they love it!
We ordered the important stuff first, a chilled bottle of bubbles, before making our menu choices.
As it was the launch of a new menu, we were also treated to a little amuse bouche teaser of what was in store for us, a very nice touch.
If you’ve read my blog before, you’ll know I’m not really a fish fan. Although I’m not afraid to try… So when the appetiser of Crab Risotto, Sea Bream and Sauce Vierge arrived, I gave it my best shot!
And I’m so glad I did, I actually really liked it! So did the girls, an all round winner on the table.
Next up an obligatory sip of wine / Champagne, followed by the arrival of our hotly anticipated starters… we were all pretty hungry after having saved ourselves for dinner all day! The waiting staff were so great at keeping our drinks topped up whilst we waited, and putting up with our girly banter!
My personal choice, Warm Goats Cheese Salad, pistachios, hazelnuts, heritage beetroot and orange honey dressing.
Absolutely divine and probably one of the best goats cheese salads I’ve ever had (seconded by the girls who also chose this starter). It just had a bit of a unique spin to it which put it a cut above the norm, very well put together.
Seared Jersey Scallops, cauliflower cous cous and a lime and ginger reduction. The girls described these as ‘gooooooood’. Which on further investigation, meant delicate and perfectly cooked. It’s also a rather summery looking dish, a perfect match for the emerging sunny weather!
The final starter chosen was the Beef Carpaccio, focaccia croutons, celeriac remoulade, balsamic and truffle reduction.
I actually almost wish I’d had this myself, it looked so tasty! My friend described it as melt in the mouth tender, with the different flavours of the dish complementing each other perfectly. Also it has truffle, and we LOVE truffle!
Looking back now, that actually seems like an awful lot of food already, the portions were very generous actually … but we kept going anyway!
Thankfully they gave us a welcome break in-between courses and we had time to chatter and catch up before our mains arrived, toasting the fact the weekend had arrived and we were spending time with our favourite girlies.
Soon enough though, more delicious goodies were arriving at our table…
Sirloin Steak, chunky chips, cherry vine tomatoes, rocket and parmesan salad. A very large portion and with fresh accompaniments, the homemade chips were a massive hit!
Asparagus and Sweet Potato Risotto, rocket and parmesan. Expertly cooked with just the right amount of bite and a rich sauce to accentuate the fresh vegetables, not a single fault!
An exceptionally pretty looking fish dish which the girls said looked almost too good to eat, only almost though! You can just see the fresh, zestiness oozing from this dish.
Jersey Turbot Fillet, brown shrimps, warm Jersey Roayls, creme fraiche and dill, spinach, capers and grapefruit butter sauce.
The lucky lady who chose this said it was a totally sublime piece of fish and possibly the best fillet she’d had in a long time. I guess thats a ten out of ten!
One of the days lobster specials, Fresh Lobster with Chorizo and Red Pepper, fluffy rice, a bed of samphire and squeeze of lemon.
Another great addition to any summer menu and very filling apparently! I love the colourfulness in this dish, just so many warm oranges and yellows that echoed the sunset we were watching out of the window.
Last but not least, my somewhat over eager choice of Jon Hackett Beef Burger, toasted brioche bun, crunchy salad, garlic aioli and handcut chips.
I knew as soon as it arrived that there was no way I could finish it, but I was certainly going to give it a good go! The burger almost fell apart it was so juicy and tender, and the whole thing was pouring with my absolute favourite food, CHEESE! A great burger and still with just enough crunchiness in the brioche bun.
Not exactly your typical order in a restaurant mostly known for it’s speciality seafood dishes, but a perfect choice for me all the same!
We ate, drank and got merry as the restaurant filled up around us, bustling with even more people in for a culinary treat. We hardly noticed though to be honest, we were so immersed in our conversation and sumptuous dinner. Our waiters were ever present if we needed more topping up too, not even the busier restaurant distract them from looking after us so well.
With absolutely zero room to fit in a dessert, we said our goodbyes and disappeared into the night for one last drink, before finally facing the fact that we had been conquered by our meal and it was time to turn in for the night!
Thank you to all the team at The Boat House for making our overdue girly night a memorable one, everything was truly spectacular and I’m sure we will be back. Maybe I’ve given you some food for thought too and you can go check out the menu for yourself, let me know your favourite dish if you do?
