A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of a new Jersey cosmetic brand, Manomara. Manomara massage oils are part of a new Signature Massage Collection using unique and natural oils custom-made from Longueville Manor Hotel’s Cottage Garden spa.
We arrived to be greeted by beautiful sunshine, the fragrant lavender aroma of the garden and a chilled glass of Champagne, not forgetting the very tasty canapes.
Manomara, which means ‘handmade by the sea’, was developed by Islander Anna Messervy-Evans. Anna has a strong focus on ingredients, making sure that all her products are natural, ethical, healthy and highly effective. She has created two oils for the Cottage Garden spa using a blend of botanical extracts inspired by the flora that grows in the hotel’s garden. The ‘Relax’ oil uses lavender, rose, chamomile, and clary sage which provide calming properties, while the ‘Uplift oil uses rosemary, eucalyptus and coriander to stimulate and refresh.
It goes without saying that the hotel looked as elegant as ever, as did the guests who were attending. One look at the sun loungers in the garden and we were already planning a girly lunch and spa treat for later in the summer!
Longueville Manor, the only Relais & Châteaux property and AA 5 Red Star hotel in the Channel Islands, is a 14th century manor house set in a beautiful 18-acre estate close to St Helier. The hotel offers 30 bedrooms and suites, luscious gardens and woodland, a tennis court, swimming pool, croquet lawn, and afore mentioned boutique wellness spa.
The hotel has worked closely with Manomara over the past year to design and develop custom-made oils that embody the nature and purity of the spa’s location. An ethos which was echoed throughout the beautiful launch event in the Cottage Garden.
Owners of the hotel, Malcolm and Patricia Lewis, took the time to introduce us to the concept behind the oils, as well as the journey they had been on with Anna in order to develop them.
What became overwhelming apparent during the speeches, was the incredible amount of passion involved in the project, particularly from Anna, but also from Lana Shepperd the Spa’s manager, and Malcolm and Patricia.
Their journey to create these products has clearly been a long labour of love and their emotional investment was absolutely apparent. I couldn’t wait to experience their exceptional product.
Lana sat with each guest and introduced them to the aroma and qualities of each of the oils.
The ‘Relax’ oil is described as a ‘Lavender Omega Blend’. The botanicals in this oil include lavender, rose flower, chamomile and clary sage. Lavender oil is renowned for its healing properties, while rose flower oil contains a complex array of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that have excellent emollient properties for moisturising dry skin. Chamomile provides calming properties, whilst clary sage is also helpful for stress, hormone balance and soothing skin.
The ‘Uplift’ oil is described as a ‘Rosemary Booster Blend’. Rosemary is known for its ability to boost memory and improve mood. The oil also includes eucalyptus and coriander to stimulate and refresh. Both the ‘Relax’ and ‘Uplift’ oils have also been bottled so that visitors can take home the unique Manomara blends.
In line with Longueville Manor’s ‘New Leaf’ sustainability project and Manomara’s ethical ethos, the oils are free from petroleum synthetics and parabens, free from excess packaging and free from cruelty, either to animals or humans.
Before long, it was time for me to take my turn and indulge in a hand and arm massage from the lovely Lana, opting to sample the Uplifting Oil.
Lana started by getting me to relax my hands and arms and coating them with the Uplifting Oil. I’m naturally quite a fidgety person, so she had her work out to get me to stay still!
To get the full effects of the oils, Lana also asks you to breathe in the aroma, which is incredibly relaxing. It may be called uplifting, and it certainly feels that way on your skin, but the scent itself is so dreamy that it relaxes you instantly.
If you haven’t had a treatment in Longueville Manor’s Spa yet or more specifically, with Lana, then I highly suggest you do. This lovely lady has magic hands and I could quite happily have sat there for hours! She is also extremely knowledgeable about her products and I’m sure the Signature Treatments using Manomara Oils will be a huge success, thanks to this dynamic team.
If you visit and choose one of the Cottage Garden Signature Massage Collection treatments, you will experience a relaxing foot soak and a body brush to prepare your skin, before being treated to an indulgent body and scalp massage using your chosen oil.
^ This relaxed and happy face is an absolute guarantee after spending time experiencing the Manomara Massage Oils and the Longueville Manor Spa.
I finished off the evening with a nosy around the hotels gardens and a little more Champagne with friends in the hotel bar. A perfect end to the perfect event.
